The Northern Provincial Council Must Resume Functioning Without Further Delay

The Northern Provincial Council Must Resume Functioning Without Further Delay.

October 17, 2023

In a democracy, it is customary for the previous elected body to remain in power until the next elected body takes office. This practice is observed in democratic countries around the world, and itThe Northern Province Council is something that we as Tamils should also adhere to, in line with the principles of global democracy.

As part of the Tamil Diaspora, we are urging the recently elected members of the Northern Provincial Council to assume power.

In order to address the issue of aging officials, it is imperative to elect a new Chief Minister and Speaker of the house. It is crucial that these positions be filled by individuals who possess strong leadership qualities and are determined to bring about positive changes. The new leader should also be capable of effectively combating any actions taken by Sri Lanka that might pose a threat to our interests.

If we allow Colombo to have unrestricted power, it cannot be considered a democracy. This does not align with the aspirations of the Tamil people for their future.

The Tamils have been rendered powerless people.

If any council members refuse to participate, simply disregard their resistance and proceed to function with members who are willing to participate.

Once the Northern Provincial Council begins to function, the Tamil diaspora can provide assistance to the best of our capabilities, within the confines of our permissions.

The council possesses the power to pass resolutions that effectively address Sinhalese aggression and oppression. By means of these resolutions, the Sri Lankan government’s failure to uphold its own constitution will be exposed, along with their lack of effort in promoting power-sharing and their dependence on Sinhala-only rule.

Thank you,
