Sritharan and Ponnambalam Must Study About Federalism!

Sritharan mentioned federalism as a solution for the Tamil issue in Parliament. However, he needs a lesson on federalism and the history of the Tamil struggle. If he and Ponnambalam visit the United States next time, we are ready to educate them thoroughly.

Why is Federalism Not Good for Eelam Tamils?

Proposing federalism as a solution for Eelam Tamils in Sri Lanka is entirely a flawed idea. There are multiple historical, political, and structural reasons behind this.

  1. Betrayals and Broken Promises by Sri Lanka
  • Every attempt related to federalism or power-sharing (such as the Bandaranaike-Chelvanayakam Pact, Dudley-Chelvanayakam Pact, and the Indo-Lanka Accord) was later discarded without implementation.
  • Though the 13th Amendment was supposed to provide autonomy, it never delivered any real power to the Tamil people.

2 .Sinhala Dominance of the Sri Lankan Government

  • Under federalism, the central government can still undermine Tamil rights at any time.
  • The increased executive power under the Sri Lankan constitution ensures that no federal system can fulfill the political aspirations of Tamils.

3. Military Control and Land Grabs in Tamil Areas

  • Northern and Eastern Tamil regions remain occupied by the Sri Lankan military.
  • Even with federalism, security and land rights will remain under central control, preventing true autonomy.

4. Federalism Cannot Prevent Genocide

  • Sinhalization of Tamil areas continues through state-sponsored colonization.
  • There is no historical evidence that federalism has resolved ethnic conflicts.

5. Tamils Have Already Declared Sovereignty

  • The 1976 Vaddukoddai Resolution and the 1977 Tamil mandate affirmed the Tamil desire for an independent state.
  • Federalism is merely an attempt to erase Tamil sovereignty and integrate them under a “united Sri Lanka.”

6. International Precedents Support Full Liberation

  • Countries like South Sudan, Eritrea, and East Timor achieved full independence after realizing that federalism was impractical.
  • ederalism is nothing more than a façade for continued oppression.

Conclusion

Federalism is merely a deceptive form of authority offered to Tamils. In reality, it is a strategy to keep them under Sinhala state control. The only solution for Eelam Tamils is the restoration of sovereignty and full independence, achievable only with international recognition and support.
