Recent reports reveal the discovery of a child’s skeletal remains and a schoolbag at the Chemmani site in Jaffna — bringing back chilling memories of the mass murder of Tamil civilians by the Sri Lankan military during and after the capture of Jaffna in the 1990s.
As reported by The Morning and Tamil Guardian, the Chemmani site is believed to contain the remains of hundreds of Tamil victims. Despite a government officer’s confession in 1998 about mass burials carried out by the army, no justice has ever been delivered.
