Sri Lanka’s “Development” is a Distraction – Tamils Themselves Are Ready to Build Their Nation
Sri Lanka continues to showcase development projects in Tamil areas, but these are nothing more than distractions from its past and present crimes. Behind the glossy images of roads and buildings lies a darker truth:
- Unpunished war crimes and genocide against the Tamil people.
- Ongoing militarization, with Sinhala army camps and police controlling Tamil lands.
- Surveillance and intimidation, where Tamils live under constant watch.
- Sinhala-centric development, which reflects Sinhala culture and brings more Sinhala settlements into Tamil areas—deliberately reducing the Tamil people’s political strength. This form of
- state-sponsored demographic change is itself a continuation of genocide.
This is not real development. It is propaganda.
In reality, the Tamil Diaspora, with billions of dollars in resources, is prepared to lead the genuine rebuilding of the Tamil nation. Our vision is rooted in:
- New villages, towns, and cities, with modern roads, schools, hospitals, and buildings designed for Tamils to live in peace, prosperity, and dignity.
- New architecture and planning that reflect Tamil culture, history, and pride.
- Economic revival, free from military interference or state restrictions.
- Justice and accountability as the foundation of true progress.
No road or hotel built by an occupying army can replace dignity. Only when Sri Lanka ends its militarization and surveillance—and when Tamils are free to decide their future—can true development begin.
The world must not be deceived: Tamils are ready to rebuild their homeland in freedom, with dignity, and with their own hands.
