இலங்கை அரசின் தற்போதைய மீன்பிடி அமைச்சராக தமிழர் சந்திரசேகரன் நியமிக்கப்பட்டது, தமிழர்களுக்கு ஆதரவாக எடுக்கப்பட்ட முடிவு அல்ல. மாறாக, இது தமிழ் ஈழத் தமிழர்களுக்கும் தமிழ்நாடு தமிழர்களுக்கும் இடையில் பிளவை உருவாக்கும் ஒரு திட்டமிட்ட அரசியல் சூழ்ச்சி.
இதற்கு முன்னர் சிங்கள அரசில் பதவியேற்ற தமிழ் அரசியல்வாதிகள், தமிழ் சுயாட்சி அல்லது அரசியல் தீர்வுகளுக்குப் பதிலாக தமிழர்கள் இடையே முரண்பாடுகளை உருவாக்கியதற்கான சரித்திரம் உள்ளது. சந்திரசேகரனின் நடவடிக்கைகள் இதற்கு ஒரு தொடர்ச்சி மட்டுமே. அவரின் தூண்டுதலில் இன்று யாழ்ப்பாணத்தில், எல்லை தாண்டும் இந்திய மீனவர்களை கட்டுப்படுத்த கோரி மாபெரும் கவனயீர்ப்பு போராட்டம் நடைபெற்றுள்ளது.
முன்னாள் மீன்பிடி அமைச்சர் டக்ளஸ் தேவானந்தா குழுவும், தற்போதைய அமைச்சர் சந்திரசேகரன் குழுவும், யாழ்ப்பாண மீனவர்களிடையே பிளவுகளை ஏற்படுத்தியுள்ளது. இதன் விளைவாக, யாழ்ப்பாண தீவக மீனவ அமைப்புகள் இன்று (February 27, 2025) போராட்டத்தில் ஈடுபட்டன. போராட்டம் பண்ணை சுற்றுவட்டத்தில் ஆரம்பித்து, யாழ்ப்பாணம் மாவட்ட கடற்றொழில் நீரியல் வள திணைக்கள உதவி ஆணையாளரிடம் மனு வழங்கப்பட்டது. பின்னர், இந்திய துணை உயர் ஸ்தானிகராலயத்திலும் மனு வழங்கப்பட்டது.

இதன் பின்னணி மிகவும் தெளிவாக இருக்கிறது – இது தமிழ் ஈழம் மீதான தமிழ்நாட்டு ஆதரவை குறைக்கும் ஒரு நுட்பமான உத்தியாகும். மீன்பிடி பிரச்சினையை முன்வைத்து, தமிழ்நாட்டையும் ஈழத்தமிழர்களிடமிருந்து விலக்கிச் செலுத்தும் நோக்கமே இலங்கை அரசின் உண்மையான நோக்கம்.

A Sinister Political Ploy: Appointing a Tamil Fisheries Minister to Drive a Wedge Between Sri Lankan and Tamil Nadu Tamils
The recent appointment of a Tamil as the Minister of Fisheries by the Sinhalese-led Sri Lankan government is not a gesture of inclusivity but a calculated move to create divisions between Tamils in Tamil Eelam and Tamils in Tamil Nadu. This strategic decision aims to divert focus from the larger struggle for Tamil sovereignty and weaken Tamil solidarity across borders.
Historically, Tamil politicians who accept ministerial positions in the Sinhalese government have often worked against the interests of their own people. Instead of pushing for meaningful political solutions, they engage in tactics that foster discord. The current Fisheries Minister, Chandrasekaran, is no exception. Under his influence, a large-scale protest was staged in Jaffna today, ostensibly to demand control over Indian fishermen crossing maritime boundaries.
The ongoing split between former Fisheries Minister Douglas Devananda’s faction and Chandrasekaran’s faction has further fragmented Tamil fishermen’s unions in Jaffna. Today’s (February 27, 2025) protest, organized by the Jaffna island fishermen’s associations, began at Pannai Roundabout and proceeded to the Jaffna District Fisheries and Aquatic Resources Department, where a petition was submitted. The demonstration culminated at the Indian Consulate, where a memorandum was handed over to the Deputy High Commissioner of India.
The heightened security presence, including Sri Lankan police barricading roads, restricting public movement, and deploying riot control measures such as tear gas, underscores the government’s broader agenda: to manipulate Tamil grievances while ensuring that no real progress is made towards a lasting solution for Tamil sovereignty.
This orchestrated strategy is designed to alienate the Tamils of Tamil Nadu from the Tamil Eelam struggle. By stirring tensions over fisheries issues, the Sinhalese government hopes to distract Tamil Nadu from advocating for Eelam Tamils’ rights. The question remains: are they succeeding?
The Tamil diaspora must recognize this political maneuvering and remain vigilant against any attempts to divide our people. The Tamil struggle is not just about fisheries—it is about sovereignty, justice, and the right to self-determination. We urge Tamils worldwide to stand united against such divisive tactics and continue advocating for the freedom of Tamil Eelam.
