Tamils Demand Immediate Action from Prime Minister Narendra Modi as Drug Networks Threaten Tamil Homeland and Regional Security

WASHINGTON, D.C., March 31, 2026 —
The US Tamil Diaspora today issued a forceful call to Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi to immediately intensify Indian Coast Guard surveillance along the Kerala coastline, warning that failure to act is enabling a dangerous narcotics pipeline into the Tamil homeland, particularly Jaffna.

The Diaspora asserts that what is unfolding in Northern Sri Lanka is not merely a law-and-order issue but a systematic crisis that is destroying Tamil youth, dismantling social structures, and eroding the future of an entire generation. Once a beacon of education and discipline, Jaffna is now increasingly plagued by drugs, violent crime, and moral collapse.

The statement raises grave concerns about the post-war environment, pointing to the role of networks linked to former President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and the failures of political leadership during that period, including late Tamil National Alliance leader R. Sampanthan. The Diaspora calls for an independent international investigation into whether coordinated neglect, complicity, or policy failures allowed narcotics to flood Tamil regions unchecked.

“This is not accidental decay—this is the systematic weakening of a people. When a society that once led in education is pushed into drugs and violence, the world must ask: who benefits from this collapse?” the US Tamil Diaspora stated.

The Diaspora warns that Kerala’s coastal corridor has become a critical gateway exploited by transnational smuggling networks, and that India’s inaction risks turning a regional crisis into a direct national security threat. If left unaddressed, these networks could draw in international criminal actors and destabilize the broader Indian Ocean region.

“India cannot afford strategic blindness. The same routes used to poison Tamil youth today can be used tomorrow to undermine India’s own security,” the statement added.

The US Tamil Diaspora demands immediate and visible action, including expanded maritime patrols, real-time intelligence operations, and strict interdiction measures along the Kerala coast.

“Silence and delay will only deepen this crisis. Protecting Tamil youth is not separate from protecting India’s borders—it is the same fight,” the statement concluded.

The Diaspora reaffirmed that the protection of Tamil society, accountability for post-war failures, and the restoration of dignity and stability in the Tamil homeland are urgent and non-negotiable priorities.
