Posthumous national honour recognizes decades of community service and early Tamil youth leadership.

TORONTO, CANADA — October 24, 2025 — The Tamil community proudly announces that Kumarasuriyer “Jay” Jeyanthan (1958–2025) has been awarded the King Charles III Coronation Medal (Canada), a national honour presented in recognition of outstanding service and dedication to community and country.
Jeyanthan passed away on March 25, 2025; this medal affirms his lifelong record of civic leadership and public service.

In the early 1980s, after arriving in New York, Jeyanthan organized one of the first Tamil youth groups in the city—mentoring students, cultivating cultural pride, and encouraging civic participation. He continued this service for decades across North America, supporting families, youth programs, and community advocacy.

“Jay lived for service,” said family members. “This Coronation Medal is a fitting tribute to his humility, hard work, and the countless lives he touched. We are grateful that Canada has recognized his contributions even after his passing.”
