Eulogy by the U.S. Tamil Diaspora for Mr. Kumarasurier Jeyanthan
We, the U.S. Tamil Diaspora, are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our pioneers and guiding lights—Mr. Kumarasurier Jeyanthan. His passing on March 28, 2025, in Winnipeg, Canada, leaves a void that words can scarcely fill, but his legacy will continue to inspire generations of Tamils across the world.
Jeyanthan was not just a devoted family man, but also a visionary community leader. Born in Kondavil East, Jaffna, and later settling in New Jersey, USA, he carried with him the rich values of Tamil culture, language, and heritage. He lived by the principles taught to him by his beloved parents, the late Mr. Sinniah Kumarasurier and the late Mrs. Rajaluxmi Kumarasurier—both respected educators who sowed the seeds of service and culture in him from a young age.
In the early days of Tamil migration to the U.S., Jeyanthan was one of the first to organize Tamil youth in New York and New Jersey. He recognized the need to preserve our identity in a foreign land and took early, bold steps to bring Tamil youth together—creating a space for language, arts, and political awareness to thrive. His dedication to Tamil Eelam, his tireless activism for justice, and his cultural contributions made him a respected voice in our diaspora.
Jeyanthan loved his Tamil nation with quiet strength and unwavering clarity. He stood up for our people—not for recognition, but out of duty and love. In every conversation, every gathering, and every cultural or political effort, he brought thoughtfulness, humility, and direction.
He was a loyal husband to Jeyamalar, a loving father to Janu and Jeevan, and a proud brother to Dr. Jayanthy and Jey Surier. To all of us in the Tamil community, he was a brother, a mentor, and a friend.
As we say goodbye to Jeyanthan, we also express our deepest gratitude. He leaves behind not just memories, but a movement—a foundation upon which many of us continue to build. His life reminds us of the importance of unity, identity, and purpose.
May his soul attain peace.
May his family find comfort in knowing how deeply he was loved and how profoundly he impacted our community.

Age: 67
Mr. Kumarasurier Jeyanthan, originally from Kondavil East, Jaffna, and a resident of Colombo (Sri Lanka), Newark (New Jersey, USA), and Winnipeg (Canada), passed away peacefully in Winnipeg, Canada, on Friday, March 28, 2025.
He was the beloved son of the late Mr. Sinniah Kumarasurier (Teacher) and the late Mrs. Rajaluxmi Kumarasurier (Kunjumani Teacher); cherished grandson of the late Mr. Kulanthaivel Thuraiveerasingam and the late Mrs. Sellamma Thuraiveerasingam.
He was the loving husband of Jeyamalar Jeyanthan, daughter of the late Mr. Arunasalam Nadarajah and the late Mrs. Manonmani Nadarajah (Atthiyadi, Jaffna).
He was the beloved father of Janu Rajee Jeyanthan and Jeevan Jeyanthan, and the dear brother of Dr. Jayanthy Gnananandan (London, UK) and Jey Surier Jayatharan (California, USA).
