Tamil Diaspora News expresses serious concern over the sudden transfer of Jaffna High Court Judge A.G. Alexraja to Badulla, only days after he reportedly delivered strong judgments in narcotics-related cases in Jaffna.
According to Jaffna Monitor, Judge Alexraja sentenced a convicted drug offender to seven years of rigorous imprisonment and imposed a Rs. 100,000 fine on May 21, 2026. Seven days later, his posting to the Jaffna High Court was terminated with immediate effect and he was reassigned to Badulla.
This timing raises serious questions about judicial independence, political interference, and the safety of the rule of law in Tamil-majority areas.
The Tamil people have long suffered from militarization, land occupation, narcotics abuse, and political intimidation in the North-East. A judge who acts firmly against drugs and abuse of power should be protected, not removed without public explanation.
Tamil Diaspora News calls on the Judicial Service Commission and the Sri Lankan government to provide a transparent explanation for this transfer. We also urge international human rights bodies, foreign embassies, and rule-of-law observers to monitor whether courts in the Tamil homeland are being pressured by political or criminal interests.
Justice in the North-East must not be controlled by politicians, governors, ministers, or drug networks. Judicial independence is essential for protecting the Tamil people and restoring public trust.
