The Tamil community in the United States warmly welcomes the bold and historic move by Madurai Aadheenam, who submitted a petition to India’s Union Home Minister Amit Shah calling for a separate nation for Sri Lankan Tamils.
This is the first time since the late Chief Minister J. Jayalalithaa that a voice from Tamil Nadu has openly supported Tamil sovereignty — a just and long-awaited demand of our people.
For over eight decades, Tamils in Sri Lanka have faced:
- Systematic genocide
- Land occupation by the Sinhala military
- Suppression of language, culture, and political rights
- Displacement, disappearances, and economic exclusion
Only sovereignty can end these cycles of violence and discrimination.
We extend our heartfelt thanks to Madurai Aadheenam for their courage and moral clarity. Their voice has reignited hope and responsibility among Tamils across the world.
