Pre-Election Polling for the Sri Lankan Presidential Election
Tamil Diaspora News conducted a quick poll ahead of the upcoming Sri Lankan Presidential election, scheduled for Saturday, September 21, 2024. The poll was carried out using focus groups consisting of individuals who are well-respected and influential in their local villages or towns. We collaborated with Tamil groups and some friendly Sinhalese media outlets to conduct this polling.
The results are as follows:
ANURA KUMARA DISSANAYAKE: 34%
SAJITH PREMADASA: 30%
RANIL WICKREMESINGHE: 16%
Ariyanenthiran: 12%
NAMAL RAJAPAKSA: 6%
NUWAN BOPAGE: 1%
Non-committed: 1%
It is important to note that polling in Sri Lanka presents significant challenges. Voter decisions are often influenced less by policy and more by the perks and benefits they receive before and after elections. According to our pollsters, having sufficient financial resources can greatly impact the outcome of the presidential election
