CVK Warns Sumanthiran is Being Used by Sinhalese and Some Western Countries to Undermine Tamil Nationalism and Self-Rule
Jaffna, Wednesday, December 25, 2024
Tamil Arasu Katchi senior leader C.V.K. Sivagnanam has raised serious concerns over a conspiracy to destabilize the party and undermine Tamil nationalism. He has accused external and internal forces of orchestrating efforts to weaken the party, which represents the aspirations of the Tamil people for self-rule.
The faction led by M.A. Sumanthiran is campaigning to hand over the leadership chair of the Ilankai Tamil Arasu Katchi to the former speaker. In this context, senior deputy leader C.V.K. Sivagnanam has expressed suspicions that a conspiracy is being woven to destabilize the party. Sivagnanam alleges this shift is part of a calculated plot to dismantle the Tamil Arasu Katchi, the leading voice for Tamil nationalism and the party that has successfully secured significant representation for Tamils in Sri Lanka.
Sumanthiran’s Foreign Engagements Raise Questions
It can be inferred that Sivagnanam definitely noticed that after losing the election, Sumanthiran met with U.S. officials and Norwegian representatives in Colombo. These interactions have raised suspicions about his motives and connections. Sivagnanam further observed that during Sumanthiran’s leadership tenure, his behavior with foreign officials, Sinhalese leaders, and so-called humanitarian NGOs—many controlled by Colombo Tamils and Sinhalese interests—suggested alignment with forces seeking to weaken Tamil political unity.
Legal Onslaught Against Tamil Arasu Katchi
Sivagnanam highlighted the troubling pattern of continuous legal cases filed against the Tamil Arasu Katchi, with four cases lodged so far. He described these actions as deliberate attempts to disrupt the party’s operations and sow division among its ranks.
“This legal barrage isn’t mere coincidence. It’s part of a coordinated strategy to marginalize the Tamil Arasu Katchi, the political force that represents the majority of Tamil interests,” he asserted.
Weakening Tamil Nationalism
Sivagnanam warned that weakening Tamil Arasu Katchi serves the broader goal of undermining Tamil nationalism. He accused both domestic and international forces, including Sinhalese elements and certain Western countries, of working to dismantle Tamil self-rule aspirations by targeting the party that has stood firm against oppression and advocated for the Tamil people’s rights.
“Those who seek to erode Tamil nationalism know they can only succeed by removing Tamil Arasu Katchi from the political arena. It is a dangerous conspiracy to weaken Tamil representation and solidarity,” Sivagnanam said.
A Call for Unity and Vigilance
He called on Tamil people and party members to remain united against divisive tactics and reiterated the need to resist external manipulation. He also stressed that the Tamil Arasu Katchi’s recent success in securing eight parliamentary seats in the Northern and Eastern provinces underscores the party’s critical role in Tamil political representation.
Sivagnanam urged all stakeholders to safeguard the party’s mission and resist any internal or external pressures that threaten Tamil self-rule.
