New York, USA – Today marks the 24th anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks, a day that forever changed the course of history and left deep scars across humanity. The US Tamil Diaspora solemnly remembers this tragic day, when thousands of innocent lives were lost, including some of our own friends and former co-workers. It was a day of sorrow for all humanity.
As Tamils, we cannot forget that we too have endured immense suffering in our homeland, in the northeast of Sri Lanka. At the end of the armed conflict, 146,000 Tamils were killed and over 30,000 forcibly disappeared. Our pain is compounded by decades of oppression and unresolved injustices, which continue to haunt the Tamil nation.
On this solemn day, we remember the victims of 9/11 and stand in solidarity with all who have lost loved ones to violence and terror, whether in New York, Mullivaikkal, or elsewhere in the world. Let this day strengthen our commitment to truth, justice, and peace.
Thank you,
