Modi’s Visit to Sri Lanka – A Betrayal of Tamils and Hindu Values
During Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s recent visit to Sri Lanka, his decision to kneel before extremist Buddhist monks—those who preach the Mahavamsa doctrine that justifies the killing of Hindus—was nothing short of disgraceful. This act of submission may satisfy the rulers of Sri Lanka, but it deeply offends the millions who remember the atrocities committed in Mullivaikal, where over 145,000 innocent Tamil civilians were massacred with the blessing—or silent approval—of the very monks Modi chose to honor.
These Sri Lankan monks have never expressed remorse for their role in promoting hatred or for the genocide of Tamil Hindus. Modi’s gesture sends a chilling message: that the lives of Tamils and the dignity of Hinduism can be cast aside for political optics.
Throughout his visit, Modi refused to visit a single Hindu temple, nor did he pay respect to the Tamils who were killed by the Sri Lankan state. This is not the conduct of a statesman; it is the behavior of someone driven by religious fanaticism and political appeasement.
It is a shame that some Tamils still believe Modi will champion their political rights. In reality, he is the worst Prime Minister India has seen—worse than Manmohan Singh, who at least maintained dignity. Even former PM Atal Bihari Vajpayee from the BJP showed greater respect toward Hinduism and the Tamil people.
Back in India, Modi is also undermining Tamil culture by forcefully pushing Hindi—a language spoken by a minority of Indians—onto the people of Tamil Nadu. His cultural imperialism threatens the very identity of Tamil civilization.
Modi must remember: he became Prime Minister for the third time not because of merit, but because of karma—specifically, the karma of Sonia Gandhi, whose actions during the 2009 war against Tamils led to tragic consequences. That karma, which crushed Tamil hopes, is what paved the way for Modi’s rise—not divine grace or democratic virtue.
Tamils worldwide must wake up. Modi will not protect us. He will not honor us. He will not stand for justice.
