It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing away of Dr. Lalithambigai (Lali) Thambiaiyah on April 16, 2020 at Kaiser Hospital in Walnut Creek, California, USA. She was 61 years old.

She is preceded in death by her father Mr. Kandiah Elankanayagam Kathirgamalingam, Retired Crown Advocate (1977), mother Manonmany (2014), sister Vijeyalakshmi (2018), father-in-law Velupillai Suppiah Thambiaiyah (1991), and mother-in-law Saraswathy (1987).

Lali hails from Jaffna; from her young age, she excelled in her studies. She entered the University of Peradeniya Medical College and became a doctor at the young age of 23. She contributed her services as a physician in Sri Lanka during the civil war. After her marriage to her husband Jegan Thambiaiyah in 1987, she moved to England for further postgraduate studies. After moving to the United States, Lali completed her residency in Connecticut and moved to California, and worked as a primary care physician at Kaiser Permanente in Pleasanton, CA for more than twenty years.

Despite a difficult life, Lali remained resilient yet extremely kind, placing the needs of others before those of her own. Her duties as a physician extended outside of her workplace, as she served her community with love and never turned away from someone approaching her for medical questions or help. She spent much time volunteering at the temple, organizing activities or running free clinics to those in need.

Like an Angel on earth, she is now amongst them in heaven.
She lives on through her family, who love and miss her- her husband Jegatheesan Thambiaiyah, her son Chenthen Thambiaiyah, her daughter Vithya Thambiaiyah, and her brothers Senthil Kumaran Kathirgamalingam, and Shiva Kathirgamalingam – and through the friends and community members who fondly remember her.

Please note: Funeral rites to be performed in conformity with the current restricted guidelines.
